Curious what you think! 🤩
Plus, how to get people's opinions without the Judgment Monster rearing his head
When I used to teach social media, I’d tell my clients, “You can’t figure it out in your head. You’ve got to put it out there and see how people respond and then adapt.”
And then I’d race back into my brain where I’d diligently try and determine exactly what my audience wanted. 🙄
Well, folks, I’m a changed lady!
We’ve been doing this experiment for a month now (one action a week) and I want to know what YOU think. I could guess all day, but I thought it’d be better to go to the source, because you’re the ones I’m doing this for.
My sense is one action a week is too many (but I could be wrong!)? I DO NOT want to overwhelm you - I want this to be fun, easy, and uplifting so you make the time to do it!
Plus, I like the idea of interspersing resources - How to Actually Have Fun This Summer, 5 Ways to Look at Your Phone Less, An Easy Way to Get Up Earlier - with the actions.
BUT, if you like the consistency of every week, I’m totally here for that too! I’m open to what works best for you!
Would you take 2 seconds and let me know what you think so I can give you what you want?
I really, really appreciate you taking the time to answer this poll!
And you didn’t think I was going to let you off the hook, did you? MWAHAHAHA! This is the perfect segue into this week’s action!
Get curious about something small in your life
Too often we make assumptions, write stories in our head, or overthink situations when all we really need to do is get curious.
Getting curious means you wonder, but aren’t overly tied to the outcome. You can do something with the information or you don’t have to! You’re just gathering intel so you can decide if you want to move forward in a direction (or not).
You could get curious about things like:
YOUR KIDS: ask your kids how they feel the summer is going and see if there’s anything they’d like to do differently
YOUR PARTNER: see if there’s a place where you could make your partner’s life easier
YOUR BUSINESS: ask your customers if there’s a specific product that would be helpful to them or what their biggest challenge is right now
YOUR ONLINE BUSINESS: ask your followers what kind of content they would find most helpful or what questions they have for you
YOUR HOUSE: look at an area that gets congested with stuff and wonder if there’s a different way to set it up (or should you let things go?)
YOUR HEALTH: ask ChatGPT for easy ways to improve your health that don’t take a lot of time or money
YOUR FINANCES: pull up your bank statement and see what the first 10 expenses are and observe how it feels in your body
YOUR BEDTIME: notice how tired you are at night and how easy it is to get up in the morning
Do you see how there’s no judgment in any of these scenarios? You’re just noticing. That’s it. Just noticing the data and then you can do something with the new intel or not.
👉 WHAT IF I DON’T LIKE WHAT I FIND?!?!?
Remember, we’re just gathering information.
If you don’t like the answer, you have options! You can:
- dig deeper and get more intel
- ask yourself why it’s bugging you so much
- say you don’t like the answer
- ignore it!
Asking doesn’t mean you’re committing to anything.
I asked you for your opinion on newsletter timing, but, ultimately, I’m going to do what I think! YOU SHOULD TOO.
👉 I’M NOT SURE HOW TO ASK.
I find the best way is to start by saying, “I’m curious about something…”
It takes the pressure off because you’re simply wondering and there’s no outcome tied to it.
So, I might ask the kids, “I’m curious if summer is going the way you’d hoped?” I’m not saying anything will be changing, I’m just asking the question. Make sense?
I’m for sure going to ask my kids how they’re feeling about summer because now I’m really wondering. And the finance question made me feel a little woozy so I probably need to do that one? Just going to remember I’m going in with curiosity, not judgment!
Okay, what do you want to get curious about this week?
Remember, make it easy and doable. No prizes here for hard or judgmental (in fact, that’ll land you smack in Naughty Room where you’re going to have to listen to “Farting in the USA” on repeat and you DO NOT WANT THAT).
Tell us in the comments or in the chat what you’re going to do!
Here’s to a lovely, curiosity-filled week!
xx. Kara
